19 August, President Clinton’s 61st Birthday Cake Competition: Award and prizes for the closest replica as edible cake or dimensional artwork of little Billy Blythe Clinton’s 3rd birthday cake. Rules details of submission will be available in early summer. Winning cakes in both categories will be photographed, and prizes awarded. Winning edible cake will be shipped to President Clinton. Winning non-edible cake will become part of the museum’s permanent exhibits. All other cakes will be sold to benefit the museum. Clinton Birthplace Essay Contest:
Inspired by Pres. Clinton’s essay for Boy’s Nation, this first of an annual competition is open to high school seniors. Short essays on various topics, with 2007 being “The Role of Leadership in Social Justice will be judged by historians and teachers from SW Arkansas area. The five winning essays will be read by their authors at an event honoring young scholars and leaders. Prizes will be awarded. Rules, formats and dates for submission will be available in the spring.

Virginia Cassidy Clinton Kelley Memorial Garden:
Opening of the Women’s Pathway of Valor.
A new path of memorial bricks and pavers will be installed connecting the N and S ends of Virginia’s garden. It is specifically intended to honor women who have spent some part of their life in Arkansas for their commitments to their families and their communities. Memorial bricks or pavers requests will accepted beginning in January 2007. Time and date to be announced.

Easter Egg Hunt on museum grounds. Children’s musical performances.
Tricycle parade. Award presentation to donor of a replica of President Clinton’s childhood tricycle, the one that later was a political cartoon feature for his vigor and focus. Time and date to be announced.

Story-telling and book signing with the fabulous Mr. Harvey Smith, Arkansas raconteur and author of children’s books. Mr. Smith retired after 30 years teaching American History in Arkansas public schools, and is now pursuing a lifelong dream that began with his university studies in creative writing; he is creating stories for young people, as with his adventures of Tincup series. These and other stories are a delight to young and old, and use the geographical and historical environment of Southwest Arkansas as their setting. Time and date to be announced.

Book signing for Mr. Bill Bowen, previously chief of staff for Gov. Bill Clinton and later dean of the University of Arkansas, Little Rock, Law School, which now bears his name. He is now an Arkansas author with his just published his memoir,The Boy from Altheimer, From the Depression to the Boardroom, University of Arkansas Press, 2006, with forward by President Bill Clinton. The Clinton Birthplace Foundation will host a book signing open to the public. Date and time to be announced.

Changing exhibits of Regional History:

Winter exhibits begin in honor of Eldridge and Edith Cassidy, maternal grandparents to former President Clinton. Clinton frequently mentions that they were primary in teaching him the ideas and values he has carried into his policies and efforts for social justice.

Spring Exhibit will include documentary materials on the social importance and cultural influence of small rural stories.

Summer Exhibit will focus on the history of watermelons in Hope AR and surrounding areas, replacing the cotton economy and augmenting the peach orchard industry.
